Wednesday April 13th 2016

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Isis reached the stars ten times recently! Good work!

Calendar: Today our routine was led by Alexa.
Phonics: Today we continued with the "qu" sound. We sang the song a few times and then talked about different "qu" words. Next we used flashcards to practice reading "qu" words and then make sentences with them. We switched several times so each pair had several words to read.

Journal: Today we wrote about "In warm weather I..."
Gym: Please see Mr. Slyk for more information.

Lunch/Recess

Language: Today we started reviewed Jack and the beanstalk through the use of a video online. Next we practiced sequencing the events together on the board. Finally we sequenced the events on a worksheet independently.
UOI: Today we talked about being a teacher! We shared with our partners what we know about teachers and then made a list of things on the board of things. Next we read a book called "Let's meet a teacher." After the book was finished we added information onto our list about what we learned.

Next we pretended to be teachers! Everyone was put into a group of three. I gave them all a community helper topic they had to teach to their partners. They all took turns being the teacher. I walked around giving reminds of what they needed to be watching out for. For example,  children not sitting criss cross apple sauce or students not paying attention. It was there job to remind them of what they were doing wrong. Finally we came back together to talk about what we learned. The told me that it was difficult to get people to listen to them. It was an excellent learning experience!

Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we started our geometry unit! We all sat in a circle and I held up different shapes. We went through them all and talked about the names. We talked about how "pent" means 5, "hex" means 6 and "oct" means 8. We also talked about the corners and sides. Next I laid all of the pictures out on the floor and gave the children a baggy of different shapes. They had to stick their hand into the bag and choose a shape, tell me what it is and then place it on the map on the floor. Finally we completed a matching worksheet.

Have a great night!
