Day 55

Hello,

Here is what we did today!

Calendar: Today our routine was led by Danial.
Phonics: This week we are reviewing long/short Aa and long/short Ee as these are vitally important letters to understand. Today we made a list of words that have a long Aa. Next they had to spell words that have that sound from memory. They did really well! I was really proud of them!

Journal: Today we did a sheet that goes in their IB binders.
Christmas concert: We continued to practice the dance for the concert. We are finally done learning it and are going to continue to practice! I cannot wait to show you!

Lunch/Recess

Unit of inquiry: Today we continued to work on their summative project. They have all been sent home tonight. They only need to be practiced tonight to ensure they understand the material. They are encouraged to  dress up like a farmer (Jeans and a plaid shirt is okay!). If they do not dress up they are to wear their uniform. Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we started working on things that could happen and things that could not happen. The children sorted two sheets of pictures onto two separate pages. For example: You wouldn't make a snowman in your bathing suit.

The math data management test will be December 7th 2015. This is a short unit and as a result, will be a short test. There will be a review sent home this week to practice.

Tomorrow is farmer day! The children are to dress up like a farmer (Jeans and a plaid shirt is okay!) If they do not have that then they need to wear their uniform. This is not a casual day. They need to practice and ensure they understand what they are presenting. They also need to bring in a physical copy of their food (picture is fine too!).

·         Students are to come to school on Monday and Wednesday in their gym uniform. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, students are to come to school in their full school uniform.

·         Please make sure your child has a pair of black dress shoes and a pair of gym shoes labeled and to be left at the school for their indoor shoes this year.

·         Please make sure that your child has hat, gloves and scarf as it is starting to get cold outside

Day 54

Happy Friday! 

Here is what we did today. It was a crazy day!

Calendar: Today our routine was led by Julia. 

Spelling test:  We did our spelling test and it will be in their agendas on Monday. 

Phonics: Today we did our show and share on Long Ee. 

Journal: Today we wrote about our favourite animals! They are improving  so much ! I am so proud of them. 

Christmas concert: We continued to practice our performance! Can't wait to show everyone!

Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we started learning about picture graphs. We learned that instead of colouring in a square in each box, they draw a picture in each box. They also had to complete a tally chart. They struggling a little bit doing the tally chart so we went over it later. 

Unit of inquiry: We continued to work on our summative project. We are almost done. They will be put in the agendas on Monday. Reminder that there is no work to do for this at home apart from practicing their presentation and finding farmer clothing.

Lunch/Recess

Math: We started off making many tally charts to practice how to do a tally chart. They kept forgetting to do the fifth tally as a cross through the other four. We next had some children come to the board to practice writing some tallies. Next we made some pictures graphs to practice the whole concept. Finally we finished off the period doing two worksheets. One was to practice tallies. They interviewed each other about their favourite animal. The second worksheet was a picture graph on their favourite season. 

Overall it was a busy day but productive!

Day 53

Hello!

Here is what we did today! It was a very busy day!

Calendar: Today our routine was led by Sahara.
Science fair: Today we presented our science fair project to the judges! They did really well and knew how the experiment worked and what happened throughout the experiment. I was really proud of them!

Christmas concert: We continued to practice for the Christmas concert.
Phonics: We continued working on long Ee today. We had some problems as they had forgotten a lot of the words we came up with yesterday. Eventually their memories came back and  we were able to make a great list. I think they are getting the hang of the long Ee.

Lunch/Recess

Unit of inquiry: Today we started working on our summative project! They did really well. In order to determine their food for their project, they picked the category that their food came from out of a bag and then they chose a food from that category. That helped to ensure that we don't get repeats of the same food. Some people were able to finish all of the questions and some people did not get a lot done. As a result, we are changing the presentation day to Tuesday December 1st 2015. All of the children will be dressing as a farmer that day. I have put a sheet explaining this in their agenda bags today.

Science fair: We went down to the science fair again to show off our presentations to all the other grades.

Journal: We used our knowledge of the long Ee to write two words that have a long Ee sound in it.

Here is what we did today!

Phonics: Today we continued working on long Ee as we were having trouble using this spelling pattern. We spent quite a long time spelling words together so we can get in the habit of spelling words properly with ee, ea or e_e. I think we are getting the hang of it!

Lunch/Recess

Unit of inquiry: Today we continued to talk about dairy products! Today we talked about the milk production process, how we get milk from farm to table. We learned a song that helped us to remember the different steps. Although we are still learning it! Next we did a copy and paste activity. Here is the video!

Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we continued learning about graphing! I asked the students some questions on which item they preferred and then made a tally chart. Next we made a made some graphs together using the tally charts. We ended the period colouring a bar graph about weather.
Daily five: Some people worked on making spelling words out of play-doh while others completed some paper work for report cards.
