Day 39

Happy Wednesday!

Here is what we did today.

Calendar: Today our routine was led by Ethan.
Gym: Please see Ms. Lovan's blog for more information.
Art: Please see Ms. Kerr's blog for more information.
Phonics: Today we worked on the letter Ll. We worked on the song and action for the letter and then practiced how to write it on the board. Next we made the letter Ll out of play-doh.

Lunch/Recess

Journal: Today we worked on how to behave while sitting on the carpet.
Unit of inquiry: Today we made cows out of paper plates! This was a reminder of which type of meat comes from a cow and what a cow's face looks like.

Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we talked about AAB patterns. We were reminded that patterns always REPEAT and the core is the part that REPEATS! We talked about some patterns on the carpet and determined what the core of the pattern is.

At the end of the day we had a chat about how our day went and how we can improve our day for tomorrow and practiced the poem for Guy Fawke day tomorrow!

Reminder that aftercare payments are due November 16th 2015. After this date there will be late charges.

Please make sure that your child has three pairs of shoes at school: Gym shoes, black shoes and outdoor shoes (preferably boots)

Reminders:

· Students are to come to school on Monday and Wednesday in their gym uniform. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, students are to come to school in their full school uniform.

· Please make sure that your child is wearing the proper shirt for winter. This is a long sleeve polo shirt and no short sleeves.

· Please make sure your child has a pair of black dress shoes and a pair of gym shoes labeled and to be left at the school for their indoor shoes this year.

· Please initial agendas on the right side of the book daily to indicate you have read the agenda slip on the left hand side. Any new information that pops up throughout the week will be written on the right side of the agenda.

ACTION

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
