Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Today was Aashrith's 6th birthday! Happy Birthday Aashrith!

We started off the day eating pancakes!

Calendar: Today our routine was led by Kashish.

Phonics: Today we continued to talk about the "ar" sound. We sang the song and found all of the "ar" words in the song. Next we brainstormed a list of words onto the board. Finally we used play-doh to spell the "ar" words from memory.

Gym: Mr. Slyk was away today so we went outside to play octopus!

Lunch/Recess

UOI: Today we talked about paramedics. First we talked with our partners to see if we knew what a paramedic was. Some people knew some of information which was great. Next we read a book about paramedics or EMTs and talked with our partners about what we learned. After that we wrote a list on the board of things paramedics are...can... have. Finally they used each column to make a sentence. Some people didnt finish so they will have to finish tomorrow during first recess.

Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we talked about 3d shapes! First we reviewed what we learned about yesterday. We talked about the names of the shapes and what vertices are, as well as faces and edges. Next we made 3D shapes out of marshmallows and tooth picks! Finally they filled out a sheet that talked about how many marshmallows and toothpicks they used as well as the name.

Overall it was a good day.

ACTION

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
