Day 79

Hello,

Here is what we did today!

Calendar: Today our routine was led by Bryce.
Phonics: Today we did something a little different! Students were put into pairs and given two words with "oa" sound. Each word had dots on the bottom to help them sound them out. They had to practice sounding out each word and come up with a sentence for each one. They had a lot of fun and it was great practicing for blending!

Art: Please see Ms. Kerr's blog for more information.
Journal: We used our words we sounded out during phonics to write two sentences.

Lunch/Recess

First we had some time to finish our journal!

Math: We started talking about subtraction. We introduced "Linus the minus". He eats numbers and makes them smaller. We practiced Linus eating different numbers using counters and determining what the final result is. We talked about several times that subtraction makes the number smaller.

Lunch/Recess

UOI: Today we took some time away from our summative, due to a problem with the printer, to talk about our information on Mexico! Alexa was my helper and taught us about various aspects of Mexico. We also learned some Spanish words!
Daily Five: We did our daily rotation.

-          Thursday January 21^st 2015—Permission slip for Humber Arboretum. We really need volunteers in order to be able to go!

-          Snuggle up and read- Due Friday

-          We will be starting a new homework folder instead of jolly phonics. The students have a worksheet to do for each new blend they will be working on. This week they need to do the “oa”  worksheet. This is due on Friday.

-          Friday Show and Share students:  Alexa (ai sound ), Aashrith (ai sound),  Jordan (Letter Jj),  Layla (Letter Jj)

o   Please bring in something that begins with the letter sound beside your name.

-          Please note: ALL students must wear the “winter” uniform (long sleeve shirt and sweater vest or cardigan)- NO T-SHIRTS PLEASE – If students are not dressed in their “winter” uniform, a uniform violation form will be sent home.

-         Please make sure that your child has hat, gloves, snow pants, coat and boots every day as it is very cold.
