Here is what we did today!
Calendar: Today our routine was led by Justin.
Phonics: Today we continued to work on the "ai" sound. We created a list of words that have the "ai" sound in it and spelt them together. We made a great list I was really impressed! Next they made words with that sound out of play-doh from memory.
Gym: Please see Mr. Slyk's blog for more information.
Journal: Today we continued our talk about summer time. Today we wrote about what we did last summer and wrote two sentences. We were focusing on handwriting, starting each sentence with a capital letter and ending with a period.
Lunch/Recess
Unit of inquiry: Today we reviewed what we know about summer. They knew a lot today! Next we talked about the signs of summer. After that the children did a worksheet in which they draw a picture to fit each of the signs of summer. This helps them to remember what they learned!
Library: We exchanged our books for new ones! They love going to the library! We are working towards using our inside whisper voices while in the library
French: Please see Mlle. Jessica's blog for more information
Lunch/Recess
Math: We continued to work on addition today. We are making really good progress and everyone is starting to know some questions from memory which is fantastic!
Have a great night!
St. Jude's Academy Cold Weather Policy
Below you will find the steps taken at St. Jude's Academy to ensure students stay safe and have fun during the winter months.
- Reduce amount of time students spend outdoors when the temperature is –20 degrees Celsius or colder, with or without the wind chill. Students will stay indoors when the temperature is -20 degrees Celsius or colder, with or without wind chill.
- Understand that some medical conditions may increase sensitivity to cold. Parents should consult their physician and provide a written notice if a child has a need to stay indoor.
- Ensure students are dressed warmly, covering exposed skin: insulated boots, winter weight coats, mittens, hats, neck warmers.
- Ensure students change wet clothing or footwear immediately.
- Although these conditions are unlikely to occur during the school day, ensure that all staff are able to recognize and treat symptoms of frostbite and hypothermia. Given plenty of warm fluids to prevent dehydration.
- When children are outside, be watchful for shivering or signs of numbness in faces, ears, hands or feet.
- Educate children in dealing with cold weather: drinking plenty of fluids, dressing warmly, and recognizing signs of cold injury.
