Day 70

Hello,

Here is what we did today!

Calendar: Today our routine was led by Julia
Phonics: We reviewed the long and short Uu sound. This one is a tricky sound. They needed reminders that the long u says its name and the short u is "like a punch in the stomach". This was our phrase that helped them to remember the sounds that it makes. We made a list of words that have this sound and then did a cut and paste worksheet.

Journal: Today we worked on our new years goals and what we can work on this year!

Lunch/Recess

Language: Today we read a book and put our detective hats on! I left out some words while reading the story called " Playhouse" by Robert Munsch, and they had to use their "eagle eye's " to look at the pictures and figure out what is going on during that point in the story.
Unit of inquiry: Today we talked about spring, what happens during this season and how we can use our five senses to describe it. We made a list together on the board and then they had to copy off the board and write five sentences. For example, I can see the flowers blooming, I can hear the birds chirping etc. Some people did not finish and they will be finishing tomorrow during recess.

Lunch/Recess

Some extra time to finish their unit of inquiry activity
Math: Today we continued working on addition. They are working on using counters to understand how to answer the questions properly and knowing the answers to the questions from memory. We did some work on the carpet together by using counters to answer questions and doing some verbal work. They continued to practice on the worksheets they didn't finish from yesterday.

Overall it was a good day.

- Please note: ALL students must wear the “winter” uniform (long sleeve shirt and sweater vest or cardigan)- NO T-SHIRTS PLEASE – If students are not dressed in their “winter” uniform, a uniform violation form will be sent home.

ACTION

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size! Please check out our Action board in our classroom to see all our fabulous learners.
