Wednesday May 25th

Hello,

Here is what we did yesterday.

Calendar: Today our routine was led by Alexa.
Phonics: Today we continued to talk about the "ur" "er" and "ir" sound. We made a list of different words that have that sound in it then used flashcards to practice the "ur" sound when reading.

Arts night: We practiced our song and dance on stage in a school run through

Lunch/Recess

Journal: My favourite sport it.....because...
Arts night: We practiced our song and dance on stage.
UOI: Today we talked about what makes our family special! We did this by making crests and drawing pictures of what is special about our family. They looks great and will be placed on the walls in the classroom.

Teacher water balloon: The teachers were water ballooned as the prize for the children reaching $9000 during the spring fundrasier! They had a lot of fun getting us wet! Visit the St. Jude's Facebook page to see the fun pictures!

o Please have your child dressed in gym uniform ( SJA gym shorts and t shirt)

o Please provide your child with all the necessities to be outdoors all day (hat, sunscreen, water bottle)

o Ice cream cones will be sold for $2

o If there are winners from our class they will go on to compete at the maples on Friday May 27^th

o Please hand in your child’s permission slip ASAP

- Please initial agendas on the right side of the book daily to indicate you have read the agenda slip on the left hand side. Any new information that pops up throughout the week will be written on the right side of the agenda.

ACTION

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
