Day 143

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

French: Please see Mlle. Jessica's blog for more information.
Calendar: Today our routine was led by Maia.

Phonics: Today we continued to work on the "ou" sound. Everyone gave me a word that has the "ou" sound in it and together we made a list of words. Next we used flashcards to practice sounding out words and creating sentences.

Gym: We went outside to play what time is it mr wolf as Mr. Slyk was away today. They had a lot of fun!

Lunch/Recess

Ice cream: In memory of his brother who passed away, Wade Kosowan, a parent at The Maples Academy, brought an ice cream truck to SJA.

Spelling bee: Today the students competed in the in-class competition for the spelling bee. Everyone worked so hard and I am so proud of everyone! Our winners from our class are Aashrith, Justin and Zia. Good work everyone!

Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we continued to review on the hour and half hour. We talked about the placement of the minute and hour hands and where they go depending on each time. I gave them a time and they had to either use their hands to be the minute hand and point up towards the 12 or down towards the 6. Next we talked about the how to tell which hour it is when it is in between two hours. We talked about how it is always the smaller number when in between two hours (except in between 12 and 1, we talked about that being an exception to the rule). Next they completed their own clocks.

ACTION

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size! Please check out our Action board in our classroom to see all our fabulous learners.
