Hello,

Here is what we did today.

French: Please see Mlle. Jessica's blog for more information.
Calendar: Today our routine was led by Alexa.
Phonics: Today we started reviewing the sound "ir". Unfortunately the "ir", "er", "or"and "ur" all sound the same and knowing the difference is just memorization. As a result, I wanted them to be able to recognize what sound the "ir" sound makes when they are reading words with these letters in it. We talked about the sound that "ir" makes and then used flashcards to practice sounding words out.

Journal: Today we did a writing assessment talking about our favourite foods

Lunch/Recess

Art: Ms. Kerr was unavailable as she was preparing for arts night next week so Mr. H took them outside to explore nature and they will complete some art based on what they see next class.
Independent reading
Arts night: We practiced on stage for arts night and we got a little mixed up. Please make sure you are practicing at home.

Lunch/Recess

UOI: Today we went over where our ancestors are from! We also talked about how our ancestors impact us today.
Math: Today we talked about comparing lengths using the words "is bigger" and "smaller than"

o If there are winners from our class they will go on to compete at the maples on Friday May 27^th

o Please hand in your child’s permission slip ASAP

ACTION

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
