I hope that everyone had a fantastic March break! Here is what we did today!
Calendar: Today our routine was led by Layla
Phonics: Today we talked about the blend "ch". I knew they would be really good at this sound as it is one we talk about quite often because of various sight words. I was right! They came up with a fantastic list! I was blown away! Next we used play-doh to create some of the words.
Journal: Today we did a writing page for the report card " I learned....", "My favourite part was..." and "I could improve...".
Gym: Please see Mr. Slyk's blog for more information.
Lunch/Recess
UOI: Today we started a new unit of inquiry! It is called "We're all in this together". It is based on community helpers. Today we started talking about what a community was. I asked them before to discuss with the person next to them what they think a community is. Next I wrote down everything they said even if I thought it was wrong. Next I played them a video on communities and asked them to decide what they thought a community is now. We circled all of the answers that had to do with what a community was. I broke the children into groups and they had to come up with something they know about communities and something they want to know. This is helping to develop their inquiring minds. Finally we completed a KWL chart. This outlines what the children already know about communities, what they want to learn and then at the end you fill in what they learned.
Library: We switched our books!
Book: I read them a book called "Boy + bot". This is about being friends with someone who is different and how that is okay. We had a discussion about the topic as well.
Lunch/Recess
Math: Today we reviewed the money we have already learned: what they look like, how much they are worth and practiced counting them. Next we moved onto the quarter. We took a look at what they look like and how much it is worth. Next we sang a song on how to count in 25's and this seemed to help! Finally I covered up different numbers and they had to fill in the blanks to help them remember how to count in quarters up to $1.00.
Daily five: We did our daily rotations.
Hope you had a great day!
Miss. Ross
